Teen Therapy: Bridging the Gap Between Teens and Parents

The teen years are full of intense emotions, identity shifts, and growing independence, which often leads to tension at home. As a parent, you may feel like your teenager has become a stranger. Conversations turn into arguments, and despite your best efforts, it can feel like nothing gets through. Your teen might be shutting down, isolating themselves, or acting out in ways that leave you confused and worried.

At the same time, teens often feel deeply misunderstood. They may be overwhelmed by academic pressure, social comparison, mood swings, or the weight of figuring out who they are. Many want to talk, but don’t know how or fear they won’t be heard.

At Insight Psychological Services, we offer therapy that supports both teens and their parents. We help teens explore their emotions, develop communication skills, and learn healthy ways to express themselves. We also work with parents to better understand their teen’s inner world and develop strategies for connecting without escalating conflict. The goal is to rebuild trust, reduce tension, and create a path toward mutual understanding and connection.

Teen Therapy: Navigating the Transition to College Life

Leaving home for college is a major milestone and for many teens, it’s both exciting and overwhelming. Suddenly, they’re navigating classes, independence, and entirely new social dynamics. Living with roommates, managing schedules, asking for space or support, and advocating for their needs in a dorm or apartment setting can feel like an entirely new language.

Many students struggle with anxiety, loneliness, or homesickness as they adjust. Some find themselves in conflict with roommates but don’t know how to speak up without causing drama. Others may feel isolated, unsure of how to make friends or maintain balance between academics, social life, and self-care.

Therapy during this transition can be a powerful support. We help college-bound or college-enrolled teens build the skills they need to communicate assertively, set boundaries, manage stress, and adapt to their new environment with confidence. Whether they’re preparing to leave home or already navigating campus life, we provide a safe space to process their experience, explore their identity, and learn how to thrive in this new chapter. We provide secure telehealth services for teens that move outside the area, but also love seeing them in-person when they return for school breaks.
